In honor of DSP Recognition Week and as part of our new Dedicated DSPs series, we’re spotlighting direct support professionals across LADD who go above and beyond. Read on to get to know Marquita Jones, a DSP in our Community Supported Living Program.

How long have you worked for LADD?

I’ve worked at LADD for 8 months.

Tell us a little bit about what you do.

I support four guys living at our Zig Zag house in various ways and help them take care of their home.

Why were you inspired to work with people with developmental disabilities?

I’ve done this before in a different capacity and it was all paperwork with very little face to face or quality time. I wanted the quality time. As a DSP, I get the best of both worlds.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Knowing that I can make a difference in the lives of the people I serve.

Name one thing you’ve learned from someone you support.

I’ve learned from them how to stay in the moment and just enjoy life.

What does it take to be an outstanding DSP?

It takes patience, active listening and treating others as you would want to be treated.
