Spotlight on Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein

December 14, 2023

As we bid farewell to 2023, LADD would like to recognize Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein for his ongoing support and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.

Prior to being the first blind justice elected by voters statewide to the Michigan Supreme Court in November 2014, Justice Bernstein was a tireless advocate for disabled rights as an attorney. His passion for creating a more inclusive and accessible world has included his support of and participation in LADD’s mission and the Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival.

For the past decade, Justice Bernstein has met with Cincinnati City leaders and decision-makers to advocate for greater accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities.

He also recently spoke at FAW Apartments to remind residents that their voices matter, they must advocate for themselves and others and together, we will realize the dream of full inclusion. But it will take hard work, dedication, and courage. Everyone in attendance met Justice Bernstein’s speech with applause, “Amens!” and a standing ovation.

On November 1, 2023, Justice Bernstein visited Cincinnati, delivering speeches addressing accessibility and inclusion at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, the Cincinnati Center for the Global Practice of Law and International Law Society, and the Fraternal Law Conference.

Let Justice Bernstein’s work and dedication remind us that the Holiday spirit is alive and well and that we all possess the power to make the world better for all!
